Healing Arts Gallery at University Health Lakewood Medical Center

The Healing Arts Gallery at University Health Lakewood Medical Center, managed and curated by Summit Art, is located on the second-floor lobby of the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. The gallery features roughly 30 artworks, representing 15 Juried Artist Members of Summit Art.

This special exhibit invites patients, families, and caregivers to experience the restorative power of creativity. The Healing Arts Gallery features aesthetic paintings, photography, and mixed-media works that feature peaceful landscapes and contemplative moments. Each piece was selected to evoke calm and inspire reflection—offering a gentle reminder of beauty, even in times of uncertainty.

Healing arts programs have been shown to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and promote emotional well-being for patients and those who care for them. For patients, exposure to art can ease anxiety and provide a sense of agency and peace during treatment. Visitors often find solace and grounding in the presence of art, helping them navigate the emotional challenges of supporting loved ones in intensive care. For medical professionals, the exhibit provides a quiet space to pause, recharge, and reconnect with the deeper human aspects of healing.

By integrating the arts into the hospital environment, this exhibit transforms the ICU lobby into a sanctuary of color and compassion—a place where creativity and medicine meet to nurture the spirit as well as the body. Recovery involves more than medical care; it also thrives on hope, empathy, and the shared expression of life through art.
