Missouri Town Paint Out
Presented in Partnership with Jackson County Parks and Recreation
Paint Out Description
This Paint Out is a “Quick Paint” competition – an exciting competition for plein air painters painting on location at the historic Missouri Town Living History Museum. The event takes place during the Missouri Town Fall Festival, in which over 8,000 local residents are expected to enjoy the day in the beautiful historic surroundings. Artists will compete for a Purchase Award sponsored by Summit Art.
For the Public
Spend the day at Missouri Town’s annual Fall Festival of Arts, Crafts and Music. This one-day festival is open to the public and celebrates the traditional fall harvest season experienced by early Missouri homesteaders. Learn from historic interpreters in period attire and experience folk artisans, musicians, dancers and crafters. Visitors can hitch a ride on a wagon, see sorghum being made, play a 19th-century game and make memories to last a lifetime. Following the competition, the public can explore the finished paintings at the Art Show & Sale to browse and buy fresh, new paintings by area artists.
For Artists
Missouri Town is a living history museum that recreates life in a small Missouri town on the eve of the Civil War. Missouri Town includes more than 25 historically preserved buildings dating between 1822 and 1860, spread across nearly 30 picturesque acres of rolling countryside and surrounded by prairie tallgrass and woodland forests. Original structures relocated from seven western Missouri counties are filled with historic tools and furnishings, setting the stage for life in the mid-1800s.
