I have always been a visual person. Images speak to me, reaching my soul faster than any spoken word can hope to travel. When done thoughtfully, a story is captured revealing to the viewer an unmistakable and unshakable life truth that evokes emotion and reflection.

As a photographer, I don’t have a preference of where to look for that story. It can – and does – come from anywhere. While I do enjoy capturing the human experience perhaps most, it would be incorrect to say I don’t get inspiration from nature and the beauty of God’s creation. That is the freedom the camera provides, and I love it. It has no boundaries. It will capture whatever I find interesting. I have also not attempted to cultivate a specific style. I am drawn to color, perhaps even bold color, but I also find there is often power and message in the tones of a black and white photograph. The dimensions of the photo also vary. For me, it all boils down to finding how best the photo can share its story.

While I am not a professional photographer, I have had a camera in my hands for quite some time, spending a lot of time with video and moving images while cultivating a small business in Los Angeles before moving to Kansas City and exclusively focusing on the still image. I have not had any formal training. All of my education has been self-taught with lots of trial and error and good feedback from an array of professional photographers, artists and friends whose skills and artistic sensibilities I value. I am still learning, and hope to keep it that way for the rest of my life. Previously, my ability to submerge myself in photography has been restrained by the demands of my job. But I recently retired, which has released my passion a bit to do as it pleases. What was once a casual joy is now blossoming into a serious endeavor. I do not have a website (yet), nor have I attempted to sell my photos to the public. However, I do aspire to eventually get to that point..
